Quick answer

To convert hourly pay to annual, multiply by the hours worked per week and the weeks worked per year: $25/hour × 40 hours × 52 weeks = $52,000 a year, which is about $1,000 a week or $4,333 a month. This calculator converts any pay period to every other, using the hours, days, and weeks you set. The figures are gross (before tax).

Formula & method

First the tool converts your entered pay to an annual total: hourly × hours/week × weeks/year; daily × days/week × weeks/year; weekly × weeks/year; biweekly × (weeks/year ÷ 2); monthly × 12. Then it divides that annual figure back into each period. All results are gross — they don't subtract income tax, payroll deductions, or benefits.

When to use this tool

  • Comparing a job offer quoted hourly against one quoted as an annual salary.
  • Working out monthly pay from an hourly rate for budgeting.
  • Converting a contractor day rate to an annual equivalent.

Common mistakes

  • Assuming 52 paid weeks when unpaid time off means you work fewer — lower the weeks/year for an accurate figure.
  • Reading the result as take-home pay; these are gross, pre-tax amounts.
  • Confusing biweekly (every two weeks, 26 pay periods) with semi-monthly (twice a month, 24 pay periods).

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert hourly pay to a yearly salary?

Multiply your hourly rate by the hours you work per week and the number of weeks you work per year. For example, $25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000.

Are these numbers before or after tax?

Before tax. They're gross figures and don't account for income tax, payroll taxes, or deductions, which vary by location and situation.

What's the difference between biweekly and semi-monthly?

Biweekly is every two weeks (26 pay periods a year); semi-monthly is twice a month (24 periods). This tool's 'biweekly' uses 26 periods.

How many weeks should I use per year?

52 is the default for full-year work. If you take significant unpaid time off, reduce it to reflect the weeks you're actually paid.

Is this financial advice?

No. It's a conversion aid only. For take-home pay and taxes, use a payroll/tax tool or consult a professional.

Is my data uploaded?
